Mario Gonzalez de la Nuez is a visual artist and printmaker known for his diverse body of work, ranging from paintings and expeimental prints to traditional drypoints. His art delves into themes of displacement, fragility, time, the past and memory - concepts deeply rooted in his personal experiences and surroundings. Mario also explores the hidden and preserved memories we all carry within, sometimes consciously or unconsciously keeping them locked away. His work often. merges dreams and lived moments, creating a new perhaps alternate, reality.
To convey these ideas, Mario employs a range of media and processes, producing artworks that resonate on multiple levels. A recurring theme in his practice is the connection between landscapes, nature, and the human condition. In his recent drypoints, Mario investigates the process of reconstruction through repetition and the layering of symbolic imagery tied to significant places. These works evoke memories of landmarks that hold biographical significance, and the act of folding the paper becomes a metaphor for migration and transition, embodying the themes of movement and change.
Mario Gonzalex (b. 1993, Havana, Cuba) has been based in London since 2015, where he is an acitive member of the printmaking community, working with London Print Studio and Artichoke. He has participated in numerous exhitions and art events, including the Wooolwich Contemporary Print Fair, Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and 'Unveiling' a contemporary printmaking group show at Knight Webb Gallery. Not only did Mario contribute artwork to 'Unveiling' but he also took on the role of organiser and curator for the exhibition.
