Artist Statement

Working in a quick, responsive method both to subject and physical material, Chantelle’s process is driven by a desire to combine the observed with the imagined/found. Through a process of drawing continuously from the natural landscape and a personal range of reference material such as the space of theatre and stage, small artworks are created and imbued with a sense of intimacy and privacy. They act as small scenes from the artists ongoing explorations and experiences. The physical process of these artworks is the result of an experimental approach to materials, layering and testing each material to utilise all its possibilities. Each piece is an opportunity to work quickly without a clear destination, placing and layering the various elements of texture and colour until the desired feeling is achieved.
